Unhappy Will Having Misdemeanors Affect My Green Card Renewal or Obtaining My Citizenship

please help!! I currently have an immigration lawyer for about a year now. I have many criminal records that i am regretting very much. 5 or six of them are for shoplifting, larceny too i think.(the lastest one was from 2002) 1 is for wronfully obtaining public assistance that was about ten years ago. some i've had to pay fines, community service and arrest records. I have been in the u.s since 1980 have 4 children who are citizens. I have the old green card that doesn't have an expiration date.I asked my lawyer instead of trying to renew my card could i get my citizen instead. He wasn't very helpful he suggest i talk to a criminal lawyer since i have so many records he didn't want to jepordize anything. The only thing that shows on my fbi record is the one for wrongfully obtaining asst. will they look at just the fbi records or the court ones too? is there even a chance of me getting my renewal green card or citizenship? what can the criminal lawyer do for me? are my chances of getting deported high even though i've been here 29 yrs with kids? i am currently in las vegas

Yes it can effect your Green Card and can cause deportation specially with multiple CIMT convictions. If you apply for citizenship they will look at every thing in your record. In general immigration relay on FBI records but they do have access to every criminal data base.

Now the only person can help you would be very experienced immigration lawyer who deals in deportation and removal maters regulatory only he/she can look at all your criminal cases and tell you where you stand and what course of action should take whether to apply for citizenship or just hang in there as is quietly without catching any attention.

With that rap sheet, I'm honestly surprised that you're still here in the US.

Yes, this very much may cause problems for you. It's unlikely that you'll be eligible for citizenship with your record - you get one, and only one, petty theft exception. Anything else is looked upon unfavorably.

Since you already have an immigration attorney, you really should be addressing all of your concerns to him/her, as s/he has access to all the details of your case.
