Question Suing Over FMLA Violations and Retaliation

i have filed a suit against my former employer for fmla violations as well as retaliation. (all documented and valid) i need to come up with a dollar figure on what i want. are there laws out there that indicates i can only sue for X amount of $? my attorney stated they can not give me a figure to go after that is up to me. has anyone been involved in something like this and what can i ask for and not really going overboard. i have read that based on discrimation under civil rights, i can sue for pain and suffering up to $300,000 for employers over 500 employees. Am i right? also can i get my salary and benefits too?

You need to be asking these questions of your attorney. State law varies and what would be a *reasonable* amount to sue for is based on a great many variable factors, none of which we know. Strangers on a message board cannot tell you what your case is worth; that's what you pay your attorney for.
