My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
My buddy is on probation and will have random drug screens. Do they also check for alcohol during drug screens, or is it too unreliable? I was on probation a few years ago, and at the time I drank 3-4 half gallons a week. I was never violated for having alcohol in my system, but the terms of probation did not include any stipulations about alcohol (can't have it in the house, can't go anywhere that serves, etc.). So I am unsure of whether they knew I had drank the night before and it didn't matter because of the probation terms, or whether they can't use urinalysis as an alcohol test. He does have alcohol stipulations in the terms of his probation, so I suspect that if even a trace is found he will be in violation. However, I have also heard that other things can show up as alcohol in urine. So, for my curiosity and his knowledge, does anyone know what the deal is with this? Any help would be appreciated.
