Default Visa for a Long Term (1 Year) Visit

    Hi,

I have a friend in Atlanta who wishes to visit the UK for a year having just graduated. I am happy for her to live with me and help out around the house in exchange for her keep. She will not being doing any employed paid work except me giving her some pocket money every now and then.

Would it be easier if I say she is going to be an au pair?
What kind of visa does she need to apply for and do you have any advice as to how to make a successful application?
I am happy to be a sponsor if need be but again am not sure what this means or entails.

Any assistance would be greatly received. Thanks very much

You need to consult with an immigration solicitor in the U.K. - this is a U.S. board.

Thanks very much - I was aware that it was a US board. I was hoping to get an answer from your perspective as the query involves a US citizen.
I cannot find out the answer from a UK immigration solicitor without finding one, making an appointment and paying for the priveldge.
I was just trying different avenues before then and hoped that you would have the information to hand as I am asking on behalf of the US citizen.

    Thank you

We can't help you because we're not familiar with UK immigration law, which is vastly different from US law. It doesn't matter that your friend is a US citizen, she's got to talk to someone who understands UK procedures.

You may get an answer from these folks.
