Hello,
My girlfriend is being sexually harassed by her landlord. He asks her out, makes suggestive/disturbing remarks, comes onto her, walks in on her when her door is open, etc. She's made it clear she is not interested in him in that way, yet the behavior persists.
Six months ago, after a rejected invitation, he called her and said he wanted her to move out of the space she is currently habitating. He would "set her up in a condo," supposedly with his own personal money. When she became upset the matter was dropped.
Complicating the situation is the fact that the space she's habitating is technically "illegal." It is a basement space, but the door does not go directly to her apartment, but to an area from which she must open another door to get into her apartment. Apparently the rule is that it must be clear to a fire department that someone lives there; since there are no large windows, it may not be clear. In fact, I am not entirely sure about the legality of the space, but the landlord himself has suggested that it is illegal.
There is no official lease, I'm pretty sure.
My girlfriend does not want to move. What legal recourse is available to her should the harassment continue?
Thanks.
