    Question Applying for Citizenship

hi, i am a permanent resident and want to apply for a citizenship. I did research on the paperwork that is needed for the n400 application. I can provide my tax papers, my driver license, and my greencard. Unfortunately, my parents with whome i do not have a good relationship have all my other paperwork: birthcertificate and my passport. i emailed them on several occasions to ask them to send it to me via usps certified mail but they repeatedly denided. I called one of the help centers and spoke to an immigrational specialist they told me that the amount of paperwork that is required varies from case to case. Is there any way i can get my other paper work from my parents? Also is it worth starting the process even if i do not have the other paperwork?

Here is a link to the guide to naturalization document M-476

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf

About page 48, there is document check list for the N400

Birth cert and Passport are not needed, as far as I can tell. You should have provided them for your GC application process, though.

If you can't convince your parents to give up the documents, then you should work to get replacements. Birth Certificates should not be too much trouble, just call the local goverment offices where you were born. The passport will be more hassle...you will need to contact your countries Embassy here in the US and ask about how to get that done.
