Default Can You Become a Police Officer with a DUI Conviction

My question involves a background check in the State of: IL
I was just wondering if being convicted of a DUI would be an automatic disqualifier for becoming either a police officer or any government agency federal officer?

    Not necessarily.

How such records are handled varies by jurisdiction - some jurisdictions say "No DUI ever", others are still willing to consider you if you've been an otherwise exemplary citizen and the charge is old, old, old.

Consider asking the jursidiction you wish to apply to what their policies are.

Agree. Normally, a DUI charge would not be an automatic disqualifier. Each agcy. will have their own requirements for acceptance. You will need to speak to the agcy. you are looking to join.

So far all the agencies I have looked into only say no felony convicitions.
