My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
My Claim is set to expire 5-30-09. I've been collecting benefits for about a year and just started on the second extension which has $5400 left.
I am worried that when the claim expires, could that be the end of my benefits?
I just spoke to someone at the office in Sacramento. She just said to file for a new claim just before the experation date and that it would be for the next extension "FED-ED." I'm curious about why that is since I only just started on the 2nd extension. Also, she could not confirm whether it is normal to be awarded a new claim and couldn't say how long the latest extension would last. She was kind of cagey & vague. Not reassuring at all. Kind of a bummer because personally I am freaked out and was calling to calm my nerves. It seems so hard to get a straight answer out of the EDD.
I'm worried because I haven't been able to find any sort of new position, if my benefits end soon it could be a real disaster.
Anyone have a similar experience with the experation of a claim & refiling? I also don't understand having to file a new claim since I haven't worked this year.
