...when the police came to my house today...due to a fight between me and my mom, they mentioned me living in a half-way house, or going to the courthouse and getting emancipated.. would it be worth going to the courthouse and getting a court appointed lawyer? please read my post and give me some feedback, any feedback at all will be GREATLY appreciated.

    NOW you've got it.

Emancipation is not and never was intended to be a way for minor children to leave the house. It was and is intended to be a way to provide legal protections to those minor children who, through no fault of their own, found themselves ALREADY on their own.

i just find it weird that the police would even throw out the idea of an emancipation. i'm not doubting your accuracy though. i'm still gonna keep my hopes up on the idea of getting out of my house.. wish me luck "/

That's because police know about CRIMINAL law, not civil law (that's why they are police officers, and not attorneys).

They simply are uninformed and unfortunately, in being so, they made a suggestion that in no way is an actual possibility (although if giving you SOME level of hope calmed things down for the evening, their job suddenly got easier, see?).

Go back and read katy21's response - she's right on the money, so to speak.
