Default How Aggressive Are Federal Prosecutors in Pursuing Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Federal

Hello, I was attempting to do some research as it pertains to a statistical analysis of criminal investigations vs. warrants vs. arrests vs. convictions. I am have a very hard time finding hard data and if there is a site that can provide that help would be appreciated.

In terms of more subjective data, I was wondering how aggressive federal law enforcement is in pursuing charges. I see 2 conflicting clues and so I wonder. On one hand, federal courts have an extremely high conviction rate which to me indicates being very selective in terms of prosecution. On the other hand, you hear all the stories about how federal law enforcement, if investigating someone, will look for ANY federal law that may have been broken irregardless of any criminal intent. I have even read books saying that you should NEVER talk to a federal agent ESPECIALLY if you are innocent. So how fair in terms of seeking fairness and justice over just getting convictions is the federal system and what factors determine charges (other than just a broken law) such as cooperation, resouces for aggressive defense, etc.

    Thanks
    Scott

I doubt you'll find your desired data on a website; good luck with that.

Federal prosecutors have the luxury of knowing that when they decline to prosecute, it's usually in the context of a defendant who has been or will be charged by state authorities. When federal prosecutors do decide to prosecute, or you interfere with a case they deem important, watch out.
