Default Roommate Will Not Allow Me to Get My Stuff

My question involves court procedures for the state of: Indiana
I have a roommate that will not allow me to get my stuff... I still live there and was out of town working. He drove to this town on my job site and took my garage door opener and my house key from my truck. Now he will not allow me in the house to get my stuff and I am stuck living out of the bag I packed for the trip. No eviction notice, no time to get my stuff, nothing. The police said it was a "civil matter" and there is nothing they can do.

    What are my legal rights?

    Are you on the lease?

Consult with an attorney in the city in which you actually reside. Whether you're on the lease or not, he has no right to keep your stuff, and he is required to give you notice to vacate.

Whether or not you're on the lease determines how much notice.
