My question involves criminal law for the state of: FL
I got caught shoplifting 2 to 3 weeks ago in Sears in Miami. This is my first time getting caught, my first arrest form and I wasn't actually arrested because we never made it to the police place to put me on bail. I'm 18, my first offense and I stole $50 dollars worth of merchandise. Sears sent me a letter from their lawyers to pay them $200 dollars which I already called to pay installment payments. This is a misdemeanor by the way. My question is, what might happen because I have just been lost about the whole situation.

Did the police show up? If so, yes, you were arrested, but released. You will have to go at a later date for a MugShot and fingerprints.

If no.....you are lucky.

The letter from Sears is called a Civil Demand. Pay it immediately.

If no police were called, the store still has 1-2 years to file charges (depending on the state).

Yes, The police came. I got "arrested" but from what I understand, they didn't read my rights BUT they took me to where they file the cases and fingerprinted me but no mugshot was not taken. Apparently, the police officer was lazy and just let me go because my dad works for the city. I have court in 2 weeks and I just want to know, if I seal my charges or expunge them, exactly what does that mean?

Since the police showed up and you have a court date - then yes, you were arrested. At your court date, you will likely be given an order to appear at the State Police Post for fingerprints and mugshot.
