Default Company Backs Out of Pay and Bonus Obligations

My husband got a new job put in his 2 weeks notice after working for this company for 10 years. HE walked off was only 500 dollars in his pocket. We live in Calif. No sick or vacation pay. They have it posted on his last payment stub but refuse to pay because he left before the end of the year. Also they did not pay his the 1000 dollars they owe his for the engineer he brought to the company. The new employee got a 5000 bonus and my husband nothing.
If we chose to sue would this damage my husband in his career with his new employer and future career choices?

Also the old company gave him an excellent review I feel he was cheated of over 2000 dollars in pay.
    Any suggestions?

If he was denied wages that were due to him, consider making a wage claim with the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.
