My question involves a roommate in the State of: Florida
Hey guys, thanks in advance for answering my question. Here it goes:
I signed a lease to an apartment in Florida at the end of March with my now-ex girlfriend. As soon as we moved in together, things turned sour. She started abusing me mentally and emotionally, as well as physically. I have pictures after she threw a ceramic angel, gashing my head, scratches, bruises, ripped shirts. I haven't lifted a hand to her other than to throw her off of me, and she has never had any bruises from it. Obviously it would be a terrible mistake, that could even cost me my life to stay in the apartment with her, but there's one problem: I need her permission to get off the lease, which she won't give.
My question is if she takes me to court to try to sue me for half of the remaining lease if I leave and don't pay, do I have any chance under Florida or federal law of winning the case? If so, can you guys give me the article or proof?
Thank you guys,
~J.S.
