    Nope, sorry, not religious discrimination.

    All that beating around the bush for this? Really? If you're so courageous and full of religious conviction that you don't think you should have to work on the project, it shouldn't have taken us this many posts to beat your problem out of you.

    But no. "I don't define marriage like that" is not the same as needing time off for Mass on Ash Wednesday, or needing to scoot out the door before sundown on Friday because you're very strictly observant.

    You're being so cagey about things, it's impossible to really gauge what's going on, how it offends your beliefs, or whether it's something your employer could reasonably accommodate. You went to your employer and said, "It interferes with my sincerely held religious beliefs to design... something... for groups that 'are against marriage as I define it'." Then your employer responded: ______?

    If the original poster works in a state where same sex marriage is legal - and the poster refuses to accommodate this customer - then could the OP be sued for violating the customer's civil rights? just curious.

    I should think that would depend upon the way the refusal was presented?

    "I'm sorry, we simply haven't enough personnel to handle this project right now, but we can send you to company XYZ." would fall under the right to refuse service.

    "We don't like yer kind, homo. Now git!", not so much.

    What state is that actually "LEGAL" in ? The voters have not approved that in any state.. It is leglislation from the bench.. it is against the voters will etc..

    Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont. New Hampshire merely awaits the Governor's signature. Legally recognized in DC, New York, and New Jersey.

    The voters have not approved that in any state.
    The voters don't get to make all of the rules, nor should they be able to. Our system of government is explicitly designed to prevent the tyranny of the majority from trampling upon the rights of the minority.

    Read you some Madison, de Tocqueville and Rousseau once you've brought your news reading up into the present time. You might look to the Constitution, as well, to be sure you understand the basic principles of our government. I'm sure if you look, you can find a copy online for your edification.

    I find it hilarious that people who are hell-bent on interpreting the law based on some twisted worldview that holds that only SOME citizens are entitled to equal protection under the law are the first ones to start screaming for the law to protect their petty bigotries when things don't go their way.

    Your holy book says something about reaping what you sow. Look to that, and take it to heart.

    I have news for you, pal. I am in Massachusetts, the state that first approved gay marriage and made it legal. You will find, if you talk to the citizens of the state and not listen to the conservative media, that the voters here DO approve it. Don't tell me it's against the will of the voters when you're not in this state and I am.

    My religioous beliefs are that marriage is between a man and a woman. If I am creating something that goes against that it is in opposition to my beliefs.

    You STILL haven't answered the question.

    Have you actually been asked to work on this project, or are you just getting pre-emptively upset because your company is handling it?

    If you have actually been asked to work on this project, did you explain clearly to your employer your "sincerely held religious beliefs"?

    If you did in fact explain these beliefs to your employer, what did your employer do or say?
