    Default Layoffs in Georgia

My questions pertain to the labor laws of the state of Georgia.

A few months ago my present employer hand an "all hands" meeting to discuss the state of the company. The company president stated that there will be lay offs and furloughs through out the company. The lay off date for my center was set for May 1st of this year which has come and gone now, and everyone is up in limbo wondering who's getting laid off.

The questions I have is, although the president stated that there will be lay offs and furloughs, can the company layoff a mass amount of personel? Or do we have to be individually notified of our lay off? What are our legal rights, and where can I obtain any information in regards to this?

Your employer may legally announce potential layoffs in any way that makes sense to him.

Georgia is a right to work state. They can lay you off for anything. It really does not matter. The only thing they cant do is lay you off and say it is bc you are a man/woman or white/black, though no employer would ever say that I hope.

Right to work means you cannot be required to join a union to get work. It has nothing to do with this situation.

    You mean, employment at will.
