Default My Email Account Was Hacked

I live in Tennessee. Ther person that hacked my account lives on an army base in another state. She is not in the army, but her husband (my ex husband) is.

Several months ago, she hacked into my yahoo account (apparantly answered the security questions, probably got the idea from the Sarah Palin thing). I found this out when I tried to log in, and my password wouldn't work. I reset the password, and then found out what had been done. I knew that it was her, because she forwarded several of the emails to her own email address and did not clean up after herself- as in, did not delete the sent items. One of the emails that she forwarded had my login info and password to an insurance website through my employer. After she sent the emails to herself, she actually changed the information in one of the emails, forwarded it (apparently) to herself then deleted her name and email information and typed in mine, and sent it to my mother in law to show her what "I" had sent her. Of course my mother in law knew what was going on and printed it for me.

The same day that this happened, I changed all my security questions, changed my password on everything, called the police, had an officer come to my house to take a report. I then talked with an investigator over the period of three months only to be told in the end that they couldn't do anything because she was in another state, I would have to contact authorities there. I did that, and was told the opposite. I'm at the end of my rope with this, I have been harassed by her for several years now, and it seems as though now she's getting away with this. Who do I go to? Is she protected since she's on a military base?

    Thank you

You did the right thing, in notifying your local police. It's their job to coordinate with the other state; the problem appears to be that they either don't know that it's their job, or they just don't want to deal with it. Try following up with the police, to see if you can inspire them to forward the report to an agency that addresses cybercrime. (There may be such an agency with your state attorney general's office.)

Thank you for your help. I think it was a case of them not wanting to deal with it, they told me they really couldn't do anything since it wasn't a violent crime. I did finally get somewhere with the police in the other state... actually the MP's on the base there, and they seem to be working on it. They checked the IP address on the emails that were sent, and it said exactly what I thought it would. Now, what do I do from here? Will the police department there handle everything, or will I have to travel to the other state to file charges? I'd go in a heartbeat if I had to! I don't want to keep calling the detective... I'm afraid that he'll think I'm bugging him and that's the last thing that I want to do.
