Default Permanent Resident, Forgot to Renew

Hey everyone thanks again for all the support through those J1 Visa issues. Everything worked out. My wife and I are cruising through college in Boston, everything is going great. However, her Green Card / Permanent Resident Card has expired!

So, the I-751 is a renewal letter (HLS never reminded us to download it and send it in with $$$ too)

    Situation
I received a letter today saying that I never turn in my I-751.
I seriously had NO idea about it. Apparently I have been out of status since 12/02/08. The letter says I have to go to court and that all my rights have been terminated. (Work and Right to stay in the USA with my US. Citizen Husband)
Is this something that happens often I am really worried about all this.
Could you give me some advise?
So basically, we sent in Bills, Photos, and Affidavits prooving our marriage is Legit and Healthy..

As for what the HSI fundamentally wrote us ...

In accordance with Section 216 (c) (2) (B) of the Act, you may request review of this determination in deportation proceedings. However, the burden of proof shall be on you to establish compliance with the requirement to file the joint petition required by Section 216 (c) of the Act. If you choose , you may be represented in such proceeding, at no expense to the government, by an attorney or other individual authorized and qualified to represent persons before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Such counsel may assist you in the preparation of your request for review and hearing, and may examine the evidence upon which this determination is based. If you desire a review of this determination in a deportation hearing , you should present any affidavits or other evidence which you desire to have considered at such hearing.

What hearing are they talking about?? How do we apply for a DEPORTATION hearing?!?!

Unreal, we were seeking Citizenship next December, not THIS!

Has anyone Gone through this before???

You don't. You apply for a review of your situation - an appeal.

Hie thee to an immigration attorney post haste. Do not delay, do not try to handle this without competent counsel.
