My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa

My ex-BF hit me after an ugly argument. I did not call 911 but called the next day.

Cop suggested to get my medical examination done. I got that done the same day. There were bumps on my head but were covered with hair. Doctor noticed and noted them.

The charge is still not filed as the cop said he is still investigating. It's been nearly a week now. He said I should get Pro Se Domestic Abuse Protective Order from the court at my own. Is that a good advice?

2. The Ex BF will be moving out of Iowa in some days, will the chagres if filed later be still bound to him?

Please advice.

If you want to get away from him, then yes get a PO. That way if he even calls or harasses you, he will be in jail. Doesnt really matter if he is leaving for another state, they get enough evidence against him, he will be charged and a warrant filed. No different than if you went on vacation, committed a crime, and then went home. If they know who it is, they will get you

Another concern is that even I will be leaving this country in a month and will go back to my own. I understand I am the witness, if the charges are filed, but will the case hit a dead end, if I am not there?

And what if he leaves the country? Will charges be still filed against him. Can he come back to this country then?
