My question involves criminal records for the state of: California
Hello,
In 2001 I had an argument with my then girlfriend that got out of control. I was very immature at the time and did not know the law nor the "rules" of how to keep myself out of trouble. I felt that I was the victim but when the police came they made a reference to OJ and said it was procedure to take me in. I did not understand the implications at the time that what I said to the police would be used against me.
I was charged with 3 domestic violence based complaints with the worst being PC 243(e).
My parents hired a lawyer who made a plea bargain where all three charges were dismissed and I plead Nolo Contendere to a lesser charge of PC 415(2).
Recently, I hired another lawyer and had the conviction expunged.
My questions are these:
Will I ever be able to own a firearm considering I was charged with DV and accepted a plea bargain?
Does this prevent me from becoming a public servant? I would like to know if my chances at being a sheriff/police/fireman have been eliminated.
Thank you very much.
