Default Filing Taxes as Single if You're Married

My question involves marriage law for the State of: CA

Can I get in legal trouble if I file my taxes as "single" when I am really married? I am not trying to hide assets, etc., just am not interested in advertizing my marital status to the world at present.

Since you are married, you will need to file as "married, filing seperately".

Of course, your spouse will have to file the same way.

Married, filing seperately can be tricky, it is best to consult a tax professional.
