Unhappy Charges over Leaving a Child Unattended in a Car While Babysitting

im new + couldnt find the right section to put this under??
please read anyways.. or direct me to the right spot where this should be posted.

last week i left a 2 yr old i was babysitting in a car for 30 min, and the police saw. i didnt realize i was in the store that long but thats besides the point..! im 18 yrs old, no record, no danger everr to a child [besides this very minor thing] the cop calls me today + say i have a warrant for my arrest. wtffff? i think this has been taken way to far. the mom knows im not a "threat" to her child, i was deeply sorry, i never asked for a paycheck wen i was fired even tho she owes me technically $130. how to i fix this mess? w/o jail or bond. especially since i have no money to cover a bond [if there is one] since im out of a sitting job. HELP. i think this is a very minor case for an ARREST WARRENT. i dont wanna go to the pd & have me arrested..

Correct - for this type of charge, there doesn't need to be INTENT to do it.

Whatever you do, don't say that in front of the judge.

the mom knows im not a "threat" to her child
Doesn't matter what mom knows - matters if it happened or it didn't.

    i was deeply sorry
    Nice to know.

i never asked for a paycheck wen i was fired even tho she owes me technically $130.
Which has NOTHING to do with police charging you. If she owes you money, you can ask for it, or sue for it.

A warrant is an order from a court telling law enforcement to bring you before the court. It goes away when you are brought before the court, typically after arrest and booking. No one can tell you whether or not there's a bond, but I suspect there is one. Best strategy is to turn yourself in early in the week, and early in the day so as to have the best change of seeing a judge the same day, and not having to spend the night in the clink. Work with an attorney to handle the details.

Obviously the court thought a warrant was appropriate. That's what counts.

i dont wanna go to the pd & have me arrested..
You can go right to the booking facility - but any way you slice it, a warrant ends in an arrest.

Whether or not you think this was "taken way too far", the cops didn't think so when they witnessed you putting the child in danger. Obviously you don't seem to think so, but do you realize all of the horrors that could have happened??

And just so you know, this is NOT a "very minor thing", and the Mom does NOT know that you are not a threat to her child, that's why you were fired.

Get yourself to an attorney so you'll know what your legal options are.

    [besides this very minor thing]
I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Honestly, you're a very lucky ex-babysitter - had that been my child, the person foolish enough to have left him alone in a car for half an hour would have to go searching for a new face, because I'd have torn hers clean off.

This is VERY SERIOUS. Children can die when left in a locked vehicle - a car parked in direct sunlight can reach 131 - 170 degrees in just 15 minutes.

You're looking at a minimum of charges of child endangerment. You need a lawyer, and you need one yesterday.

Amen to that sister! The OP doesn't get it, but hopefully will one day when she becomes a parent.

This is so far from "Minor". So much I want to say but I'll just leave it at that....This will not end well
