Default Grand Theft from My Room

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California

I live in a family home where I rent a room. My landlord/roommate demanded that my bedroom door kept unlocked at all times so she could enter at anytime I am not home. Aside from her child and other roomates having free reign of the house, the landlord constantly has friends and family over. I gave my 30 days notice that I would be moving out. The landlord has constantly gotten more strict with me and what I can and cannot do in the house. I am restricted to my bedroom and bathroom only! A few days ago, I was getting ready to move out and I had $2800.00 cash on my night stand in an envelope that I was going to use towards my new place the next day. (stupid, I know). I came home, noticed she had friends and family over. My cash was gone. She denied knowing anything about it. I called the Sheriffs Dept and they took a report. The deputies never spoke to the landlord and the landlord did not come home for about 4 days (which is not like her at all). How can I go about getting my money replaced? She also refuses to give me her home owners insurance information.

    thank you

One more thing, I have been waiting on mail to be delievered. I saw an envelope waiting for me and I didnt pick it up right away. I went back for it later and it was gone. I asked her where my mail went and she told me I had no mail. UG!

I'm afraid you are out of luck. Without solid proof of who took your money, you haven't a civil or criminal case. The landlords homeowners insurance would not cover your lost money or any of your personal possessions. If you have renters insurance...they may cover it...but that in itself is a very far stretch.
