Question Status After Out of Country Absence

I have been a permanent resident for almost 10 years. I have been abroad since August 2008, however did come back to the United States in February for approximately 10 days (left on the 15th of Feb). I am now in China and will travel to India directly from here. My question is how long can I be out of the country legally and still be able to apply for citizenship when I get back. I would like to come back to the US from India around the 1st of September. Would this affect my status as it would be more than 6 months. Is there any way around the law? Thank you very much in advance.

Nobody here can promise you what you can or cannot do safely, particularly given your intention to remain out of the country. You can expect that the USCIS is going to be very interested in your extended absence. I suggest that you consult an immigration lawyer.
