    Default Expunging Two Misdemeanors

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia/New York

I am applying to Medical schools and realized I may be in for some trouble since they request I report misdemeanors.

I am a New Jersey resident and when I was 18 I jumped a turnstyle for a subway- and got caught by a cop- and when I was 20 I was written up for open containment of alcohol- I simply paid the fines and was done with them

But I realize this may look bad upon me as an aspiring Doctor. Is there any way I can get rid of these charges so I don't have to mention them again? I am mildly familiar with expunging- where could I begin.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

To further clarify the subway was in NYC and the open containment was in Atlanta where I live for college

In both Georgia and New York, you cannot have convictions expunged, only arrests that did not lead to conviction.

The thing with expunged records is that they are still visible to certain government agencies - including medical licensing boards. So even if you could obtain expungements, you'd still have to disclose these misdemeanors.

Better that you consider who you were when you had these charges, who you are now, and be prepared to discuss the difference in detail during your admissions interviews. A couple misdemeanors won't going to torpedo your medical career, but inability or unwillingness to discuss them could.

Jumping a turn turn style is a like a volation like a traffic ticket or a little worse, you don't even need to go to court, you can just mail a check .Idk about georgia law,in new york an open conantiner is a volation and not criminal offense. You have 1 misdeamanor, maybe none depending on the law in Ga.

Just pay attention to how the question is asked, have you ever been convicted of a misdeamanor or felony, sometimes the questions is worded have you ever be convicted of an offense besides a minor traffic volation, where you have to list both incidents.

Very true, lying can affect you more then the conviction can.
