My question involves a roommate in the State of: California
A good friend who is disabled and who recently lost his spouse has moved in a "free-lance" caregiver to help around the house. However, it has become quite apparent that this person who is listed "second" on the lease, is a total drug addict...Heroin, speed, you name it! Now the caregiver has started to allow other "unsavory" characters to lounge around the house..using food, utilities, car, etc. without reimbursement to my friend.
My friend doesn't have the energy to "fight" about wanting this person gone. And no matter what my friend tries, the addict WILL NOT leave...stating that he (the addict) has a "right" to live there, although my disabled friend is the primary tenant listed on the lease. Personally, I think the caregiver is what one would call a "ghoul" someone who hangs around waiting for a death to benefit from...
What should my friend do? Call the police? Tell the apartment Managers? Issue a 30 day notice of eviction? What are my friend's options?
I hate to see my friend suffer this foul man, due only to the fact that he lacks the emotional strength to "argue" about it until he's blue in the face. There has to be some sort of law governing such circumstances. I recommended my friend seek outside help to make others aware of the circumstances he is living with...but not sure where to turn...
ANY IDEAS are QUITE WELCOME>>!!! Thanks!
