My question involves child support in the State of: Oregon
Long story short, my boyfriend and the childs mom (kids are 10-not my bf's bio son, and 6-bio son) had a kid, they werent together when she found out she was pregnant. He anticipated on being in his sons life and helping with whatever was needed. When his son was 2 he tried to get some type of guardianship or parental rights, she fled to Arizona, I think because she wouldnt be able to receive welfare if he wanted guardianship rights. He worked with a lawyer, hired a P.I. to try and find her, no luck. The past 2 years he has been in contact with her, flying them out here to visit, going there to visit, bday presents, phone calls, bedroom furniture, clothing, etc.
She let her older son (not my bf's bio-son, but he has been known to the kid as his dad since he was 1 1/2) come out here in october of 07 because she and the younger son were to move to OR in March of 08. She also signed over temporary guardianship for the other son to my boyfriend. He took care of all expenses, but she was still claiming him to DHS in AZ to receive welfare, etc. They moved here in March 08, She had the kids off and on (living on friends couches) for 9 months, told my bf he will have custody of both of them to make sure they start school (sept-oct). Then she found out we were trying to get guardianship of them and yanked them out of school, and moved 20 miles away and kept them out of school for 2 weeks. She finally decided (in feb) to sign over temporary guardianship for 1 year (although you can only sign it for 6 months at a time, so 1 temp. form now, 1 in 6 months) that was in Feb, now here it is April and we get the Child support Request papers.
I am trying to schedule an appointment with a lawyer but am hoping to get any advice because my boyfriend goes to school full-time and works full-time, and I work fulltime and a part time job, plus having the kids before and after school is very time consuming.
Thanks anyone for your input.
