Again, thank you Carl. Being a member of a PD I am very glad that you are conversing with me. I understand that Craigslist and eBay may contain shady deals. The charges that I received are Battery (Class (A) Misd) and Disorderly conduct (Class (B) Misd). This is the reason I stated that my girlfriend may have told police I "stole" these items out of anger, knowing my side-business of finding deals and trying to profit from them.

I am completely willing to pay fines for these...but the Jail time, my freedom, is what is causing me pain right now. Especially since I do not know what is going on in the background.
And if they were going on her word, and they cannot connect the property with any thefts, they may not have enough to move forward with a prosecution.

Are these battery charges related to a domestic assault against the girlfriend? That might explain her animosity.

    - Carl

Yes, they were considered Domestic Violence. I was forced to sign a Domestic Abuse form prior to release.

IHe explained to me that there have been numerous thefts in the area and if I had any information about a duffle bag full of electronics in my closet. Obviously, he was trying to get me to admit that I had the things and have me admit that I stole them.
Yes, I agree - that's obvious. With electronic goods, though, it's often possible to trace ownership by serial number. Also, even without serial numbers, if the items you had match lists of items stolen in the area, that's circumstantial evidence (and at times pretty compelling circumstantial evidence) that they may be the stolen items.

When I buy things on Craigslist I stick to e-mail as to hide my personal information and once a transaction is completed I delete the e-mails. Why keep them? I its done and over with.
You use Gmail. That means that there's a two-step process to deleting your email - deleting it, and emptying the trash. But more than that, even after you delete your emails they may be recoverable through Google. Or if the recipient can be identified through craigslist, through the recipient (or recipient's email service) as identified through craigslist.

Also, just because listings drop off of craigslist, that doesn't mean that they're gone forever - or gone from anything but public view. You can reasonably expect the police to try to verify whether or not the items seized were in fact advertised on craigslist.

I do not want to go to Jail for buying things off Craigslist. I don't even have any information on the sellers! That is not going to look good I don't think. .
You don't have any information on any of the sellers? You go all over the place buying electronic goods, but don't remember a single name, don't remember what anybody looked like, don't remember any addresses where you picked stuff up, always paid in cash....
