My question involves criminal law for the state of: Vermont
I ordered some items from Japan online and had them shipped EMS (express mail service). I never got a tracking number and it had been about a week, so I requested it. I received it on Sunday and tracked my package. The information said it had been delivered on Saturday and that is was signed by ME. I was home ALL DAY on Saturday and didn't get my package.
Today I checked with my post office and they told me that my package was delivered by someone at the post office in the next town over. (I live in a small town. The post office in the next town is like "headquarters" and all of my mail comes though them before it goes to my post office.) I went there to complain and to find out where my package was. It turns out it was misdelivered to my neighbor. My house is also clearly marked and the address on the package is correct.
What's worse, my neighbor (whom I don't know and I'm not friends with) told the postal worker that she was me and forged my signature. The guy who delivered my package came to reclaim my package and got it back from my neighbor. She had opened even though it clearly had my name and my address on it. We share a driveway! There's no way she could have not known it belonged to someone in my house.
In the end, I got my package and all of the items are intact. However, I'm really angry and want to know if I can/should pursue any charges against my neighbor.
Thank you!
