Question Can Your Employer Cut Your Pay on Hours You've Already Worked

My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Maryland.

This past Sunday, the owner of the company I work for let all of the staff know that there would be a company-wide pay cut. However, he is putting it into affect on our paycheck from two weeks ago. Our payroll has always been 4 weeks behind, so technically, for the past four weeks I've been working at a lower rate without any knowledge of pay reduction. Is it legal for him to reduce pay for time you've already worked without notice?

    Thank you for your help!

No and I have not checked your state, but some states require a specific time of notification as well. I believe most simple allow an instantaneous change with notification.

In Maryland, employers must give at least one pay period of advance notice before reducing someone's salary. Recourse is through the DLLR (your state DOL) if they did not.
