My husband, who has worked as a Utility Locator for five years now, was fired the other day. His supervisor called him in after two days of paid leave (through the proper channels) to tell him that they had gone over all of his tickets (workload) while he was on vacation and they had found that he had fraudulantly billed a client. When he asked for the proof, he was told there wasn't any. We're pretty sure he was fired because he made his supervisor look bad. (His area was twice the size it should have been and while he was away, the tickets were allowed to build up instead of being taken care of.)
While he doesn't want to work for these people anymore, we're worried about the claim that he was fired for fraudulant billing. Shouldn't they have proof if it did happen? Also, wouldn't it be defamation if they told future employers that he was fired for fraud?
