    Unhappy Emancipating Myself

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Colorado

I am 16 i turn in 17 when i was 9 my mom committed suicide and was sent to live with my dad.. Over the last year my dad has gotten a gambling problem and was putting gambling before me he was sent to jail for driving without a license when this happened i moved with my sister and her in laws now her and my brother in law are moving to North Carolina my choices are to move back with my dad or move to NC i cant handle moving schools again ive been to 3 middle schools 5 elementary schools and 2 high schools, ever since i moved from my dad my GPA went from a 1.75 to a 3.6 ive lost 50 pounds and have exceled in sports i have my own Truck places lined up to live and i get $1300 a month from my moms life insurance I AM going to graduate high school i put my school before everything. when i lived with my dad he took my money and would blow it gambling. Right now my dad has multiple warrants out for his arrest and no car or license i know i am better living on my own than with him i have proof of his gambling problem. I cant handle moving multiple states away from my family but i cant rely on my dad and ill be taking care of him. Do you think i could get emancipated in colorado?

Emancipation is almost impossible to attain - and would require that you already had an established 100% "self support" history - emancipation being about YOU, and not really so much about dad and dad's problems. The more likely realistic remedy, given that dad has so many problems including warrants for arrest, is for you to approach your family members and ask if they would consider becoming your legal guardians until you turn 18. If they agree, have them check out the website for your local county's probate court - the steps and usually the forms to ask the court to do this can be found online. This is a MUCH easier road, and has far fewer obsticles to overcome to provide you with some stability in a better environment.
