    Unhappy Firefighter Facing Drug Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Im finishing up schooling for Fire Science and seeking a job as a firefighter as my schooling is over. Recently i made poor choices and was caught with a large amount of marijuana in my car. Because of the amount im facing manufacturing with intent to distribute charges. I have a clean record, not even a speeding ticket! I simply made poor choices and am worried my career is shot. I dont want this to keep me from being a firefighter as i have always wanted to and dreamed of it since a young boy. What are my chances of still getting a job?
    This is consuming my mind

Not good. Every candidate without a criminal history will be ahead of you in the stack. Possession is one thing, and is often overlooked if it was a single incident in one's youth. If it's been within the last 2 or 3 years, that's gonna be an easy disqualifier - but if you are talking about a recent charge at the "intent to distribute" level - I'd be thinking of what career to go to school for next, because firefighting has little chance of being in your future.

Unhappy Re: Firefighter Facing Drug Charges

Im 22 years old. So i dont really kno if that is qualified as "youth" or not. I havent gone to court yet and should be within the next month. So yes, this was a recent charge. The thing is because it was a large amount their sayin its manufacturing with intent to distribute. But their is no proof that i was doing such thing other than the amount. If i can get this thing down to a misdemeanor will my career still be something i can persue? i know if i have a felony charge then i have no chance....
Its a shame. People mess up once in a while. I learned from this incident and it has made me realize how much i really do want this career and how stupid i was for what happened....
    Any help here please?

Hire an attorney, have him or her check into a plea deal that can get you diversion, and hope that your state does not have a prohibition against work as a firefighter if you have a dope conviction.

get a GOOD lawyer and try and talk the prosecutor to dropping it down to a possession charge; then you may be able to get a 7411! Michigan law doesn't allow intent charges as deferred sentences Good luck!
