    Default Fired for Filing

My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: California.
My son works in a warehouse with some lifting. Recently he injured his lower back at work, but has not filed a worker's compensation claim because he said that he knew that another worker got fired because he filed a claim and he needs to keep his job. He has gone to several doctors, chiropractor and has lost time (and money) at work. He is afraid to file for fear of losing his job, but he may be fired because he is missing time at work. Can he be fired? What should he do?

He should report his injury, assuming he hasn't waited too long to do so, and if he is fired for doing so he should consult a lawyer about the unlawful termination.
