    Default Shoplifting in Sears

    I need help... im so scared right now and i feel really embarassed for what i just did today...i just got off of work(at the mall) and so i decided to stop at sears... i was looking up some make up stuff i was about to leave when i saw this really nice nail polish..they didnt cost that much maybe 3 dollars each..and so i decided to take 4 of them without paying it..i felt really bad when i put it in my purse...i thought it wasnt a big deal cuz this is the first time i did it..then after leaving the store some guy came up to me and ask me to return the stuff... there was no police involvement they just asked for my id and took all my information.. they told me i would be getting this letter in a week..im really not sure what it is and im scared for my parents to find out..i am almost 20 im a full time student.. i feel really bad about what happen..i need help regarding about the letter...im scared and i dont want my parents to find out...i want to know how many days til the letter come so i can check it before my parents does..and also is it only one letter that they will send me and after paying it that would be the end of this..im really scared and its been bothering me throughout this whole day...if anyone have any advice please let me know... oh and i live here in illinois...

    The letter they're talking about is called a civil demand, and it's going to be quite large - up to $500.

    If you don't pay it, they will press charges, and you'll have a lot more to worry about.

    Additionally, the store has at least a year to press charges and haul you into court. It's unlikely that they will do so over nail polish, but not completely out of the realm of possibility.

    Actually the Civil Demand amount in Illinois ranges from an amount not less than $100 nor more than $1,000; plus attorney's fees and court costs.
