    Default Credit Ruined After Divorce

In Oct. 2004 I left my husband of 10 years. It was hard, but it had to be done for certain reasons, I don't want to say. But anyhow, we still aren't divorced and I *think* I might know where he's living. I haven't had the money to pay for the divorce because I'm currently apprenticing full time. My question is, when I had left him, I wanted to make it easy on him and the utilities were in my name. I left them on, so he wouldn't have to pay his old debts to the utilitiy companies. I left them on for about 6 months after my leave and he racked them up so bad & never paid on them. I now have bill collecters calling my house daily & I have no income at the moment coming in to pay them. When I get a divorce, would I be able to fight him for the money he owes on all my bills? My credit is completely shot now because of him.
I don't want anything else from him other than to pay off the debt he owes. We do not have any kids, no house, no property, no cars, nothing. I just want him to pay what he owes and not sure what I can do to get him to do that.

    Default Divorce

When you do divorce, you can ask that the court hold him responsible for the debts. But if he has no money, they will remain outstanding. And if he declares bankruptcy, the creditors may well come after you anyway.

If you haven't yet, make sure he's not running up any new bills in your name.
