My husband and I live in Oklahoma, my step daughter lives in Missouri. She is about to turn 16 and she does not live with her mother and hasn't most of her life. We attempted to get custody of her and her sister several years ago and were unable to but most of their lives they have lived with their grandmother and after the custody battle when they were young, they were very hurt because the mother put them in the middle of it. My husband decided he did not want them hurting anymore so he gave up the battle and the girls have now been living in Missouri for about eleven years (divorce and custody was done in Oklahoma). The girls have lived with their grandmother all but maybe 1 1/2 of these years and we were okay with this because they did not want to move from their friends and the grandmother took much better care of them than their mother did. We continued and still do pay support to the mother even though the girls do not live with her and here arises the problem. This one daughter does not want to move to Oklahoma and right now she lives with her uncle (the mother's brother). Her mother does not support her with the money we send to the mother and never has and the daughter is in need of different things which we will help her as much as we can but we are also paying support to her mother on top of that. She was told by a counselor that she could get an Emancipation from her mother and that we (her father) would be able to pay the support directly to her so this is what she is wanting to do. I am wondering if she can just get emancipated from only one parent and would the court allow it?
