My question involves criminal law for the state of: Kansas
I shoplifted $42 worth of jewelry for JCPenney's, was caught on tape, brought into the back office and police was called. The police issued me a ticket with a court date. I admitted my mistake to them right there. I asked JCPenney's people if there's anyway we could settle it without having the police involved and they said no; they would let the police deal with it.
What should I do now? I know I've done a terrible mistake and I'm willing to do anything to make up for it. For my first court date, do I have to plead guilty, not guilty,no contest etc.? What are my chances that the court would dismiss my case? If I plead guilty, does that mean I will 100% be convicted and they would not drop my case? Please help...I really do not want to have a mark on my record..
This is my first offence in law in any way, I've never had a record, not even a speeding ticket.
