Default On U.S. Marshall Bus for 2-3 Weeks

My question involves criminal law for the state of: florida, but i believe is about federal custody.someone i know has been arrested and is in custody of us marshalls.i've been told by the us marshall's office in alabama (departed from) and florida (going to) that the person i was inquiring about will be on a bus for 2-3 weeks between these 2 places, stopping at various jails on the way dropping off and picking up people.it sounded so strange, they said this is how they do it,is this commonplace? also, what rights do relatives have to communicate with federal prisoners, make sure they get medical treatment, find out if they have representation, etc.?

If that's the way they do it - making prisoner exchanges between various stops on a "bus route" of sorts - I don't see any reason why they can't.

If you want to know policies for contact, speak with the facility where the prisoner is being held. Rules vary by security level, and there may be additional factors with individual prisoners.

It is not your resonpsibilty to make sure the inmate is getting proper care. In fact you will not even find out if the person has to go to a hospital. You do not have that right. You do not have the right to know when he is being transfered, or when he arrives at his new destination. You do not have the right to know the exact operation of prisoner transport.

Communication with the inmate is by mail. Other then that the inmate will have to set up the communication. So he maybe able to communicate with you via telephone.

If you want information on this go to www.bop.gov That is all I have to say about that.

If they are in prison then there is no representation. They were charged, tried and found guilty. No longer need representation. Besides that sorry to say but that is none of your concern either. Nor do you have the right to know about it. It is not part of freedom of information. So either the inmate will have to tell you or you will have to read about it from the court records.

    The previous message explains it.

But to make it clear, YOU have no rights whatsoever. It makes no difference what your relationship is. Nobody has to answer to you for anything. If you are not a licensed attorney you can not represent anyone or speak for anyone.

Once the person makes it to the federal facility where he will be staying, he will have to put in a request to add you to his visitor form. If you have any criminal record, etc. they can deny you. You will have to wait for him to write you or call you. If he has money in his canteen account he can call you on the phone.

The feds use buses and planes. They even transfer medium security prisoners to minimum security by buying them tickets on a Greyhound.
