My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
My apologies if this isn't the proper section for this question.
About 2 months ago, I shoplifted an item worth $300, using a pair of scissors on the packaging. I believe this can be considered a felony, and, to make things worse, I think there's one person who works at the store who just might - probably not, but maybe - be able to identify me (though he doesn't work in LP or management, so may very well have never seen a picture or other footage of me).
I was not stopped in the store, and nobody from the store or the police has contacted me since then. I still wonder, however, how the police could come after me, should they decide to do so. I live in a different city and county the store from which I stole (though it's still well within driving distance). Could they actually come to my house and arrest me? Could they just mail me a summons? Could they just leave a warrant outstanding and arrest me during my next traffic stop or something, or, is there any other way there could be a warrant out on me without me knowing about it? If so, how could I find out without putting myself at risk?
I offer no excuses for what I did. I know it was stupid and wrong, and have been scared enough to never steal anything since. Please help anyway, I've been a nervous wreck for 2 whole months now.
