    Default Prospective Student

    Hello,

Do I need to replcae my B2 visa with a new one that has a 'Prospective Student' annotation on it in order for the CBP officer at the POE to put that same annotation on my I-94?

I understand that a change of status from B2 to F1 status takes between 100 and 150 days. What if my F1 status is approved and the upcoming semester starts in 50-60 days. Will I be required to leave the U.S. and re-enter only 30 days before the semester starts?

    Thank you.

Are you asking if there's some special "before I begin my educational program" stamp that can allow you to remain in the country despite being out of status, pending the start of an F1 educational program five or six months into the future, no, there's not.

    No.

a "Prospective Student" annotation is added on a B2 visa of someone who wishes to admit the U.S. for educational purposes such as attending admission exams.

Usually changing status from B2 to F1 is rather difficult. However, having this annotation on the visa makes it easier.

An approval for a change of status may be received after the the semester had already started. According the the embassy if a change of status is approved one may legally stay in the U.S. and start the following semester.

    Regards,

    Yifat.
