My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New York
I have been living in an apartment for 3 years with a roommate who is on the lease. I am not, due to credit history. The said roommate is moving out, and not renewing the lease obviously. What rights do I have for wanting to remain in this apartment once the lease expires? I have paid rent on this apartment to my roommate, not the landlord, for the last 3 years. I plan to ask the landlord about staying on, but am sure because of my credit history I will be denied. Am I forced to move out as well, or is there something I can do to convince the landlord that I have been a tenant here and be allowed to remain and prove that I will be responsible paying the rent?
