My question involves a roommate in the State of: New York
Hello,
So today my roommate (who is the lease holder) asked me to switch rooms with him. His room doesn't have windows and cites that as being the reason he wants to switch, saying it isn't fair to him. Small details aside, it isn't fair to me either that I should have to leave my room.
- I always pay rent with cash (though this month I'll be sure to write a cheque) however I do have a cable bill on this address which can prove I live here. Should I take pictures of my room as proof that I live here?
- I understand that I can be asked to leave but I would have to get a 1 month notice written, is that true? Who can ask me to leave? My roommate (the person on the lease) or the landlord?
- So, what are my legal right here? How should I proceed? Should I contact a lawyer?
Thanks in advance!
