Medical Bills Responsibility of Surviving Spouse

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Ohio
In the state of Ohio, legally, what financial responsibility does the surviving spouse have for their deceased spouse's medical bills? Can the surviving spouse be legally billed and legally required to pay the debt/bills on which they did not sign? Or can they refuse to pay the debt/bills?

They might be responsible for the medical bills under the "doctrine of necessaries" which can make one spouse responsible for the other spouse's medical bills.

Per my most recent reference, Ohio still recognizes this doctrine.
