    Default Medical bill collections

    In connecticut
    After having surgery I found myself in debt in the amount of approx $3800 of which I don't have money to pay.
    I was able to make payment arrangments with most but here is the kicker;
    I was contacted by a collection agency regarding an outstanding medical bill I incurred this summer after surgery.
    I phoned the business in Oct and asked if they would accept $10 per month until my $120 bill was paid in full because of surgery I was out of work and receiving only 60% of my pay which was just enough to cover necessary living expenses and mortgage. The company said no and that $25 per month was the minimum amount they accepted.
    The business decided to stop billing me in Oct of 05 and now I am turned over to a collection agency and if I don;t pay by April 28 in full this will go on my credit report as delinquent.
    This was until I could get back on my feet and possibly back to work making my full salary the $80 balance would be no problem to pay. The company radiology associates of hartford just does not want to work with me. If they had accepted the $10 per month I was able to send the acct would now be down to $40.

    I have a feeling this might happen with other facilities I owe money to and would like to avoid having them classify me as delinquent. If they destroy my credit then why should I pay at all if the damage has alreay been done?
    I am making every attempt to pay these people I just cannot afford to give anymore than $10 per month as I said until I can possibly return to work.

    Any advise would be gratefully accepted.

    Thankyou

    Default Repayment of Debt

    Unfortunately, creditors are not always willing to work on the terms desired by a debtor. (For that matter, they're usually unwilling to do so.) Perhaps there is a friend or family member who would help you pay off part or all of your medical debts, and agree to repayment on more favorable terms, such that you no longer have to worry about your credit and being hounded by bill collectors.

    I think it's totally obsurd but I do respect your answer. I assume this is universal throughout the country or is it state specific?
    It appears you are in California I live in Connecticut.
    I suppose I was nieve thinking they would accept what I could afford I should have just not made any attempt the outcome would have been the same.

    Respectfully
