My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Michigan
I was laid off today. My brother began the process of suing my employer for medical malpractice a few weeks ago. I am (well, WAS) the bookkeeper there. Since the lawsuit started I have made it clear to my employer and my brother that I am not providing any information to either one about the other. I am Switzerland here in this matter. I did nothing to jeopardize my job. Today my employer made it very clear that he was laying me off on the advice of his attorney. That he was not firing me. That it is a lay off. In addition he stated it was specifically because I know all his financial affairs, bank account balances and info, properties..........and he is afraid that I may share that information with my brother and his attorney.
I NEED this job! I have done nothing wrong! I have been a model employee there for over 4 years and have continually received excellent job performance reports and raises.
Do I have any recourse to get my job back?
