A chapter 7 bankruptcy will typically appear on your credit report for ten years after discharge. A chapter 13 bankruptcy will typically appear on your credit report for seven years after completion of the repayment plan. So unless you complete the repayment plan within three years, a chapter 13 bankruptcy will appear on your credit report for as long or longer than a chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Your post-bankruptcy credit history is likely to have a greater impact on your subsequent credit score than the type of bankruptcy you select.
