    Default Unemployment Benefits

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: CA

I have been working in California for 25 years. I had to quit my job November 2008 to relocate and follow my husband because he was offered a higher-paying job in Texas. However, the job fell through. Luckily he was able to keep his old job. I am actively looking for work, can’t seem to find anything in my field. Am I eligible for unemployment benefits?

In most states the answer would be no. While I think it ridiculous, in most states quitting to follow a relocating spouse is not considered a valid reason to quit and get benefits.

You are, however, if I am not mistaken, in one of the few states where you may still be eligible.

In any case, you should apply for benefits. The worst they can say is no, in which case you're no worse off than if you never applied in the first place.
