    Default Shoplifting at Walmart

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New york

I was caught shoplifting in oct. 2008....signed a paper saying I would never go back to walmart. they copied my liscence. No arrest or police called.
I paid for the merchandice (amount $38.00).
I have not received a civil demand.
I call walmart and asked the head of LP and she said it is listed as "recovered" in their files. She also said I could not return to the store for one yr. She knows nothing about the civil dmeand charges and even if there will be one. she gave me the number of the attorneys they use and I called them as they have not received anything with my name.
Will there be a civil demand? I am on pins and needles everyday waiting for the mail.

If you haven't received a civil demand by now, chances are you don't have one coming to you.

Longevity on a forum has no bearing on the poster's knowledge or experience. Your attitude won't win you any points here. Nobody can be *sure* about this.

If it was me I'd keep quiet. It would be unfortunate if you contacted the attorneys and they said; 'Oh, sorry, we forgot to send it out, here you go..."

Still, save up some money for in case the demand arrives. It *can* take months.

    No disrespect intended....
I noticed that the jr. member that gave me advice..was ALSO a jr. member that was writing in asking a question about shoplifting him/her self!!!! So that is why I questioned the the jr. member vs. a sr. member response !!!!

I have heard of CD's taking several months... four or more... but Walmart has the practice down to a science.

I am not saying it COULDN'T take six months... but the chances are ever slimming.
