Default Minor Emancipation in the Commonwealth of Virginia

    Hey guys,

I've been reading around a few days, even printed out the statutes about emancipation.

Even though Articles 16.1-333 state "... with the consent or acquiescence of the parents or guardians...", is there anyway to pass that?

Because here's the situation. I am only 16; but I am the Owner of one business, a marketing firm, and the co-owner of a baseball/softball umpire contracting company. I have people who I have notified checking in to places to move to (looking at Greensboro, NC to be exact).

It is known that I can support myself financially.

My Mother and I butt heads constantly. It's nothing physical, so don't get that impression. But I'm basically just sick and tired of putting up with her. I'm as mature as, if not more mature, than most 19 year olds, and as I stated before, I am already financially free.

My Mother sees that she does nothing wrong, hence why I wish to avoid the "parental consent" part.

So basically my question is this: Is there anyway to get around the consent; and if not, what are my options if she refuses to agree?

    Thank you for your time.

You will have to get your parents' consent.

    There is no loophole.

Further, you would have to find a court willing to emancipate you so that you can live in another state.

    That is very difficult.

    No.

If she refuses to agree, you have one option and only one option; to stay where you are.

As the father of a teen, I can assure you that she is also tired of putting up with you.

For the nonce, however, you two appear to be stuck with each other.
